- Riesling Heiligenstein 2009 (Brundlmayer) From a half under screw cap, still a little spritzy - should one decant? Dry, dense fruit with time in hand. Nice wine.
- Barolo Paiagallo 2011 (Giovanni Canonica) Very fine, almost lifted, rose-scented fruit. Barolo tar too. All this against a background of fairly dry, grippy tannins. It carries its 15% (apparently) alcohol lightly. Very good indeed.

- Pinot Gris VT 2009 (Eblin-Fuchs) Fairly dry, but unless I am much mistaken there is quite a lot of botrytis and that rather dominates the flavour. Botrytised dry wines are always likely to split opinion. My view on this is it could be very good with the right dish, but for general consumption it's nice but a bit one-dimensional. Probably
